Each fall brings the salmon migration, and the annual salmon run is currently underway in the Credit River.
This time of year, these massive fish will push their way against the current of the Credit River to spawn and lay their eggs.
As water temperatures start to cool and water levels deepen thanks to fall rains, freshwater salmon begin their annual journey, voyaging from Lake Ontario up to the Credit River, according to a city news release.
There are three main types of salmon sharing the waterway (Chinook salmon, Atlantic salmon and Coho salmon), and they don't all look the same.
Salmon migration peaks in early October, and most fish have spawned by the end of the month, depending on the weather.
Here's where you can witness the annual phenomenon:
Erindale Park: The largest park in Mississauga offers extensive trails through ravines and open spaces, allowing people to get up close to the Credit River.
Meadowvale Conservation Area: The natural oasis allows people to watch the migration from a pedestrian bridge, which overlooks the Credit River.
Riverview: The Credit River flows through the 150-acre park's western border, thus providing excellent spots to watch the salmon run.
